As each year ends, it is time to archive all of the images and edits made in that year. For me, this involves moving all of that work out of my 'working' LR catalog, and into my archive drive. I archive each year as its own LR catalog. This keeps my working drive at a reasonable size but still allows me easy access to my archive files if I need them.
The archive is for master files (i.e. DNG files) and LR catalog files only. My finished JPEGs are already archived to a 'Finished Files' drive and to this website.

Before archiving begins, all images should already be renamed according to my naming conventions and converted to DNG. These steps happen during my processing of each shoot.
A word of caution: if you converted your raw images to DNG before doing any processing work on them, you will need to select all images and hit cmd+S in order to save the metadata to the DNGs.
