Guildford High Street, looking south.
This is a view I have had in my mind to photograph for a while but have been waiting for the right conditions (i.e. not raining). The lighting is difficult here. The best time of day to photograph this scene would be early morning, at dawn, but I wanted to include the crowds of shoppers in my image, so I waited until the early afternoon.
What first attracted me to this view was the hills in the background, which even in real life, look like they have been painted to the sky. Using a combination of graduated filters I was able to blur the movements of the passers-by and the slight over-exposure was an attempt to heighten the artistic, abstract qualities of this view.
